Hero Section
Last updated: March 2025
Definition
The first full-screen section of your page. Contains your headline, subhead, primary CTA, and usually one supporting visual or trust element. It's the highest-stakes real estate on your site because it determines whether anyone scrolls further or bounces.
Why It Matters
Your hero decides if visitors stay or leave. Most people form their opinion of your page in under three seconds based on what they see here. A weak hero wastes every dollar you spent driving traffic because the rest of the page never gets seen.
How to Improve
- One message, one CTA. Don't hedge with two offers or competing headlines in the hero.
- Headline should answer 'what do I get and who is this for' in under ten words.
- Add one trust signal above the fold. A logo bar, user count, or rating. Proof beats decoration.
- Test hero variants with real traffic, not opinions. A/B test the headline first since it has the biggest impact.
