Domain Authority

Definition

A number from 0-100 estimating how likely your domain is to rank well on Google. Calculated from backlink quality, diversity, and age. It's not a Google metric, but it's useful for knowing if your domain strength is improving or if you're outgunned by competitors.

Why It Matters

You need a pulse check on whether your link-building is working. DA helps you benchmark against competitors and set realistic timelines. If a competitor has DA 60 and you have DA 30, you know why you're not ranking—and what's required to compete.

How to Improve

  • Target backlinks from sites people actually visit in your niche, not link directories. One quality link beats 100 garbage ones.
  • Create original research, frameworks, or tools that people cite naturally. If it's worth linking to, earn links without asking.
  • Search for your brand plus 'unlinked mentions.' Find articles mentioning you and ask them to add a link.
  • Don't buy links or use shady services. It hurts more than helps and gets penalized over time.
