Content Gap
Definition
Topics people search for that you don't cover but competitors do. It's a missed ranking opportunity. You're invisible because you didn't answer the question they asked.
Why It Matters
Content gaps are where buyers go to competitors by default. Closing them costs less than building demand because people are already searching. One gap article can be a permanent organic lead generator.
How to Improve
- List your top five competitors. See what they rank for that you don't. Start with 'informational' gaps before 'commercial' ones.
- Map your content to funnel stages. What are you missing at awareness? Consideration? Decision?
- Prioritize gaps with real search volume and commercial intent. Random topics don't matter.
- Before writing something new, consider updating an existing page. Adding more depth to a page ranking position 6 beats new content fighting for position 1.
