Messaging Intelligence

Definition

Reverse-engineering how competitors and market leaders position themselves. You map their claims, proof types, and angles. Then you find what they're NOT saying—the gaps where your real strengths can stand out instead of competing on their crowded turf.

Why It Matters

Most teams copy each other's messaging because they haven't looked at the landscape. You end up sounding identical to three competitors. Messaging intel forces you to see what angles are already oversaturated and where your differentiation can actually breathe.

How to Improve

  • Screenshot the top ten competitors' homepages and product pages. Look for repeated phrases and claims.
  • Group claims into themes—who claims speed, who claims reliability, who claims ease, etc.
  • Find the claim nobody's making that your product actually delivers on.
  • Build your messaging around that gap, then validate it with customer interviews.
